Abbey Infants and Abbey Juniors

These schools share the same site but have each written their own Travel Plans. The schools submitted their Travel Plans early in 2004 and were both eligible to receive a capital grant from central government.

Alderman Leach Primary

Alderman Leach Primary School moved site in February 2005 and has seen cycling levels rise from 0% to 11%.

Bishopton Redmarshall CE Primary

This is a village school with a wide spread school population extending into Stockton Borough. The school had a secure cycle shelter fitted in summer 2004 and has completed its School Travel Plan.

Dodmire Infants

This school has already got a proportion of their children cycling to school and have bike stands fitted in their schoolyard. The school has surveyed both parents and pupils and have produced a Travel Plan.

Dodmire Juniors

Dodmire Juniors was one of the first schools to be involved in the Bike IT project and very successfully took part in the first Bike to School Week held in Darlington in April 2005. The school are now following up their travel plan and have installed a parent waiting shelter in the playground with the school travel plan grant.

Heathfield Primary

This school is working with Bike IT, a project run by sustainable transport charity Sustrans. Heathfield Primary now has two cycle shelters and individual bike stands in their schoolyard. Cycling levels have risen from 2% in January 2005 to 7% in January 2006.

Heighington CE Primary

A village school that has a completed Travel Plan and are working on implementing their ideas. In 2004 the school received its capital grant for completing a Travel Plan.

Hummersknot School and Language College

The Student Council played an active part in the development of the schools Travel Plan. A group of year seven and eight pupils have been involved in the design of the student and parent questionnaires and the pupils wrote the majority of the plan, including the action plan. A student group are now working on the actions in the travel plan including setting up a stepometre challenge.

Mount Pleasant Primary

Mount Pleasant Primary has a completed Travel Plan and also received a capital grant in 2004. The school has installed cycle lockers within the grounds and is looking at installing a cyclist’s entrance and path leading into the playground keeping cyclists away from traffic.

St Teresa’s RC VA Primary

St Teresa’s were provided with cycle storage in summer 2004 and are using them to good effect with a permit scheme being run by the student council. The school are also looking at improving access to the cycle storage area by widening the existing footway and improving drainage.
