What is stopping women cycling? ◾Don't boast of your long rides ◾Don't cultivate a "bicycle face" ◾Don't refuse assistance up a hill Just some of the advice given to female cyclists just over 100 years ago. We'll be chatting to Gary Philipson about getting more women out of cars and onto bikes on BBC Tees between 4 and 6pm this evening. An interesting read from the BBC's website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-41737483 View Post
Walk on the wild side with Laura
Laura Henry, Groundwork’s wild food expert, knows everything there is to know about foraging for nature’s goodies. Here’s a little taster (pardon the pun!)…
Laura says that she gets all sorts of people joining the walking groups run by Groundwork, from every walk of life, from the age of three weeks to 80 years!
And finding wild food is becoming more popular, she explains; “A few years ago, you’d be able to spot some berries just getting ready for picking and you’d be able to go back a few days later and they’d be still be there. Nowadays, everything is stripped bare by the time you get there!”
Pete from Darlington, one of Laura’s regular wild food foragers, is fascinated by what you can find out in nature.
“I grow my own veg so it’s great to get ideas of what I can plant and harvest myself”, he tells us. “I’ve had beautiful bright salads with all sorts of edible flower petals and leaves, it’s amazing what you can eat if you know about it.”
